Manland Primary School is a supportive, caring community in which we encourage each other to achieve our potential in everything that we do. We have our own school values which we encourage the whole school community to demonstrate.  These values help us to become considerate of others in our school, as well as, helping us to become thoughtful citizens in the wider world.  Our whole school values run alongside our work on British Values. We have a Manland Values cup which is awarded each week to a pupil who has demonstrated one, or more, of our values.

Aspiration

This term we are focusing on our value of Aspiration and we started this off this week with the first of our parent/carer talks on aspirational jobs!

A big thank you to Joshua (Year 4) and Bethany’s (Year 2) Mum, Dr Liu, for coming in to talk to the children all about her job as an anaesthetist.

The children really enjoyed hearing all about Dr Liu’s work at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, helping people who are poorly and in pain.

Thank you Dr Liu for everything you do to help people and for providing our pupils with such high aspirations.

Our series of talks by parents/carers on the topic of aspirational jobs has been going incredibly well – our children have had the opportunity to hear about a wide and varied selection of jobs and we know many of them have been inspired as a result of these talks.  Thank you to all the parents and carers who have come in to talk to our pupils.

Elise

If sunshine was a person, it would be Elise! I don’t think I’ve ever seen her without her trademark smile and skip in her step. She radiates positivity and I would challenge anyone to leave a conversation with Elise, not feeling just that little bit better for it.

Elise is not only responsible for her own learning but ensures that those around her can also fulfil their potential.  Elise is an amazing friend and her considerate nature has been noticeable in our PSHE lessons, where she not only shares her own thoughts and feelings, but listens actively to everyone else

Elise should be so proud of everything she has achieved this year.  Well done Elise!

Daisy

I don’t think I’ve quite met a student who sets as high standards for themselves as Daisy does.  Daisy sets aspirational goals for herself, thinks about the steps she needs to take and then goes for success!  In lessons, Daisy works well both independently and with partners – taking the time to support others and offer explanations.

More recently, I observed Daisy’s resilience during our residential.  Either wading in chilly lakes of water or climbing dizzying heights, Daisy’s smile never wavered!   In play rehearsals, Daisy has also excelled; she has proved to be an equally talented actor as she is writer, mathematician and historian!

Daisy, I hope you realise how proud we are of you!

Clara

Clara comes to school every single day with the aim to give it her best. Whether it’s a creative task, a tricky maths challenge or presenting her work to the class, she approaches everything with focus, enthusiasm, and determination to improve. She never settles for ‘just okay’ — she takes pride in doing her best and always looks for ways to take her work to the next level.

Her work ethic is truly exceptional. She listens carefully to feedback, asks thoughtful questions, and takes time to correct and edit her work. She sets a fantastic example of what it means to be a motivated, reflective learner.

Clara is a real asset to the class. Her attitude, effort, and kindness help to create a positive learning environment for everyone around her. She may not always seek the spotlight, but she absolutely deserves it — and we’re very lucky to have her as part of our school.

Nathaniel

Nathaniel has been a joy to teach, and I am so proud of the progress he has made this year. He loves coming to school to see his friends, learn and play.

Nathaniel listens attentively to the adults and peers and always responds with his ‘habits for learning’, by enthusiastically showing a thumbs up or crossing arms to tap shoulders if he agrees or putting his thumbs down to disagree.

Nathaniel loves to challenge himself, he has a ‘can do’ attitude and always wants to do more.

He is a kind friend and he always praises his peers for their achievements. His smiles, ‘well done’, thumbs up and positivity mean a lot to the other members of our class.

Nathaniel, you should be so proud of what you have achieved this year! You are ready for a more directed day in your next class, and I can’t wait to hear what you achieve as you continue on your learning journey.

Edward

Edward works hard in every lesson, puts effort into building strong friendships, and always aims to be the very best version of himself. His dedication and determination are truly something to admire.

Over the past term, Edward has grown into a fantastic learner who pushes himself to improve—and in doing so, he inspires those around him.

What really stands out is the kind of friend Edward is. Thoughtful, kind, and always ready with a smile—he listens when someone needs support and makes people feel seen and cared for. His upbeat attitude makes our classroom a better, happier place to be.

It is a real pleasure to nominate Edward for the Values Cup. Well done—you’re a star!

Francesca

Every day Francesca embodies all the Manland Values; responsibility, aspiration and inspiration!
Whatever the task, whether its creating a piece of creative artwork, completing maths challenges or writing a story, Francesca always aspires to achieve the best she can.

Francesca is a role model to all other children with her exemplary behaviour and manners. She is a kind and thoughtful friend and frequently inspires others with her ideas.

At home, Francesca also shows responsibility for her learning, always completing excellent work and often extending her learning with extra tasks.

Francesca, you truly deserve the Manland cup and I am so proud to give it to you. I can’t wait to see what you can achieve at Manland!

Arlo

I am delighted to nominate Arlo for the Manland Cup! Arlo truly embodies the value of being responsible, coming into school each day with a positive attitude and a readiness to learn. He shows kindness to everyone around him and is always willing to lend a helping hand when friends need support.

What’s even more impressive is Arlo’s perseverance; when faced with challenges, he doesn’t back down. His determination is noticeable, and it’s paying off beautifully across all subjects. Arlo’s fantastic progress is a joy to witness, and I wholeheartedly believe he deserves this recognition.

I know that as he progresses through the school he will build on the successes of this year. Well done Arlo!

George

If there is one student who personifies all of our Manland values, it would have to be George P!

George’s integrity means he works extremely hard in lessons.  Not only aspirational for his friends, George pushes himself to be the best he can be – both inside and outside of the classroom.

George delights in his friends’ achievements and is highly thought of.  He is always on hand to thrash out a complex maths problem with a friend!  George works hard, knowing that refusing to give up means success will come.

His zest for learning and thirst for knowledge means George makes links between topics, takes ownership of his learning and makes rapid progress.

George is an absolute asset to the class and I know great things are in store for him!

Elouise

Elouise has truly excelled in her journey this academic year.  From the very first day Elouise has worked hard consistently across all subjects.  Particularly in maths her determination is paying off and she has made fantastic progress.  In lessons she can confidently answer questions that probe a little deeper to demonstrate that she has a sound grasp of the topic.  This ability to re-group, smile and try again is a quality that sets her apart and will put her in good stead for the future.

Elouise is a fair and constant friend.  She will consider other’s needs (before her own) and takes the time to include everyone at break time – I can always count on Elouise to look out for others and to do the right thing.  Elouise has had a fantastic year so far, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the year brings!

Emily

Since starting the year, Emily has continually shown all of Manland’s values!  Emily is aspirational and strives to reach and surpass her potential in all subjects.  Not only does Emily work hard to answer questions, but she responds to feedback in a conscientious way, considering and adjusting her approach.

Emily’s behaviours for learning are inspirational to her classmates.  She is always ready, focused and listening for her next instruction.  Emily takes responsibility for her own learning, but also looks out for those in need.  In group work, Emily will encourage everyone to share and ensure that everyone has their ideas and feelings heard.

Emily should be so proud of all the hard work she has put into her time in the class so far.  I am so excited to see her continue and flourish even more as the year progresses.  Well done Emily!

Dhilan

Dhilan, everyday your cheerful nature makes us smile and the Manland values shine through in all that you do. You consistently show an aspirational attitude to learning. You are always ready to learn and you are a role model, inspiring others in the class. You are a wonderful learning partner and you are always polite, calm and well mannered.

You also take responsibility for your learning at home, taking time to complete additional tasks as well as working hard on your reading, spellings and maths.  In our class assembly and PSHE, you shared how you are proud of your efforts and achievements in English and so are we. It has been wonderful to see you make such good progress with your phonics and reading and to see you grow in confidence. We are so proud of you, Dhilan, our latest class superstar!

Marcy

In class, we’ve been discussing themes along the lines of ‘what it means to be different’.  As one might imagine, this has fired some enthusiastic debates!  Through many determined voice has shone through.  Marcy has demonstrated a fierce determination to do what is right, a strong sense of justice and a willingness to speak up for those whose voices may not be heard.

In all lessons, Marcy listens carefully to teaching and instructions; she works consistently carefully through tasks.  Her responses in RE and PSHE show that while she takes on board all points of view, Marcy measures these against her own opinions to form insightful responses that are always interesting to listen to.  This is echoed in English – Marcy’s book is always one I look forward to marking (she impressed me from day one, with her very first piece of writing!)

Marcy’s thoughtful demeanour means she notices when others are not feeling their best and offers gentle words of encouragement so that they feel better.  Marcy, you are a real asset to our class!  You are unique, you are determined, you have a wonderful path ahead of you!

Adam

Adam has really impressed me since the start of the year. His first piece of writing was full of fantastically inspirational vocabulary and it has gone from strength to strength. His most recent piece of extended writing is written with maturity. Adam has read a great breadth of books and has given me and others some wonderful recommendations.

In foundation subjects Adam always ask questions that demonstrate both his understanding of what’s being taught, and his desire to know more.

Adam plays wonderfully with others in class, and has a great sense of humour! I was most impressed recently with his approach to inclusive dreams and goals in PSHE.

Adam, you are an asset to our class, and Manland as a whole!

Alex

Alex has high aspirations in all lessons but particularly Maths and English mean that he considers his behaviour, ensuring he is sat quietly and focused ready to learn.  This attitude has been an inspiration to the whole class.  When he finds something tricky, Alex takes his time to take a step back and reconsider what he has done and taking a new approach.

Alex’s responsibility means he is a great friend to all the class and is always thinking of others before himself.   We are so proud of all of the hard work Alex has put in this term and the progress he can make.  I hope this is only the start of what’s to come and he continues to amaze us for the rest of the year.  Well done Alex!

Jasper

I am thrilled to nominate Jasper for the Manland Cup! He is genuinely a fantastic pupil who embodies all the qualities we admire. He has shown remarkable responsibility in everything that he does. His focus is inspiring, and he consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic that encourages others.

Not only is he diligent  but he is also a good friend to everyone in our class ensuring that no one feels left out. This makes our classroom a much friendlier place to be! What truly sets him apart is his ability to put others first. He inspires those around him, showing that teamwork and friendship are more valuable than winning.    For all these reasons, I wholeheartedly believe Jasper deserves the Manland cup!

Josh

Whenever I think of Josh, I think of a student who is cheerful, strives to do his best and excels in helping others!

He is a loyal friend who cares greatly about those around him.  I’ve been struck by his patience and kindness towards different members of our class and whoever he is working with.

Josh’s inquisitive nature means he approaches any task with a positive attitude.  In English, he is really careful to check his writing and quickly self-corrects any mistakes.  In Maths, Josh is adept at applying his mathematical knowledge to the reasoning and problem-solving tasks that require deeper thinking.  He displays great resilience and curiosity.  The one thing that really stands out is his mature attitude.

Charlotte

Charlotte is an exceptional student who consistently pushes herself out of her comfort zone, demonstrating resilience and determination when faced with challenges.  In lessons, she listens carefully to instructions, asks thoughtful questions, and actively takes on feedback to improve her work.

Charlotte brings warmth and positivity to our class, showing genuine care for her classmates and creating an environment of kindness and support. Her infectious energy and cheerful attitude make her a joy to be around.  Charlotte, keep up the fantastic work and continue to inspire those around you!

Chloe shows responsibility each day coming into school with a smile on her face, ready to learn. She impresses us every lesson with her inspirational approach to learning, always trying her absolute best in all subjects. Her manners and behaviour are exceptional at all times and her name is frequently mentioned as a role model for others. She is kind and a good friend taking care of others if they are hurt or upset.

Chloe has grown in confidence since joining our year group and has shown an aspirational attitude during rehearsals and our nativity performances   We are so proud of you Chloe and delighted you are in our class!
